F*ck the Law of Attraction

by Akira
A figure disillusioned with the law of attraction.

When I was younger, I bought into the law of attraction completely. I genuinely believed that if I visualized my dreams with enough focus, they’d magically appear in front of me. It felt empowering, like I’d discovered some hidden key to success that most people didn’t know about. But as time went on, I started to see how naive and privileged that belief was. Reality doesn’t bend just because you want it to.

I realized that the law of attraction, while appealing in its simplicity, operates from a place of privilege. It’s easy to believe that your thoughts can shape reality when you’re already comfortable, safe, and have your basic needs met. But for someone living in a war zone or facing systemic poverty, the idea that you can simply think your way out of hardship becomes not only unrealistic but cruel. There’s a glaring disconnect between this mentality and the harsh realities of life for so many people. And that’s where the “law of attraction” crumbles.

Seriously, tell some starving kid in Sudan to visualize some food and see what happens. The whole “law of attraction” is a privileged fantasy dressed up as a universal truth. If it were a real law, nobody would suffer. People wouldn’t be stuck in poverty or trauma—they’d just “manifest” their way out of it. But life doesn’t work like that. It’s chaotic, unfair, and doesn’t care about your vision board.

What faith does is keep you in the game.

But here’s the thing: I’ve learned that there is power in faith, just not the way the law of attraction sells it. Faith doesn’t manipulate the universe; it’s not some mystical force that ensures things go your way. What faith does is keep you in the game. It prevents you from giving up when things get tough. Faith gives you the ability to see every struggle, every failure, not as a reason to quit but as a step on the path to success. It’s not about avoiding failure—it’s about moving through failure, knowing it’s part of the process.

Over time, I evolved my approach. I stripped the law of attraction down to its bones and discarded the nonsense. What I was left with was the one element that still rang true: faith. Faith bends you, not reality. It’s the engine that keeps you going, even when you’re tired, discouraged, and ready to quit. Faith isn’t about waiting for things to magically happen—it’s about making sure you don’t quit when the universe throws obstacles in your way.

The law of attraction may be a load of crap, but the power of faith is real. Not because it pulls strings in the cosmos, but because it keeps you pushing forward. It’s that relentless belief in your dreams, even when everything seems to be going wrong, that ultimately gives you the best shot at achieving them. The universe isn’t going to hand you success, but if you keep walking the path, no matter how rocky it gets, you might eventually get there.

Faith is the thing that keeps you in the game, even when life feels chaotic and unfair. That’s its real magic.
